Brian Chamberlain
I'm Brian, a staff software engineer at tastytrade, where I lead observability for a brokerage platform. Most of the job is getting a large system to explain itself when something goes wrong.
The rest of the time I make things — printed parts, sensors, lamps, a robot puppet, a reproduction window clip that turned into a small business. The two halves don't feed each other and I've stopped pretending they do. One has constraints, deliverables and people depending on it. The other has none of that, which is the entire point of it.
I write all of it down, the dead ends included — those are usually the part worth reading.
Twenty-five years of it
Jobs, companies, and systems that had to hold up: clinical research, IoT, applied R&D, healthcare, energy, and now fintech. Constraints, deliverables, and what actually came of them.

Things I make because I want to know how they work. Sensors, lamps, printed parts, a robot puppet, a lot of dead ends. No business case required.
