This is a personal site with no accounts, no forms, and nothing to sign up for. It sets no cookies of its own, and on most pages nothing about your visit reaches anyone but my host. The exceptions are a handful of project pages that embed a video or a 3D model, and those are listed below by name.
What I collect
Nothing directly. There is no form, no comment box, no newsletter, no login. I have no way to contact you and no record that you were here beyond the counts described next.
What my host sees
The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Delivering a page requires your IP address, so Cloudflare receives it the way any web host does.
I also have Cloudflare Web Analytics switched on, which loads a
small script from static.cloudflareinsights.com and reports the page
you viewed, the referring site, your country, and your browser, operating system
and device type. It sets no cookies and builds no cross-site identifier. What I see
is totals — which pages get read, and roughly where readers come from. I cannot
pick out an individual visitor, and I do not try to.
Pages that load something from a third party
A few projects are best shown with a video, and a video player has to come from somewhere. When one loads, that company receives your IP address and the address of the page you are on. That is the only place anything about your visit reaches a third party, so here is exactly where it applies:
| Embed | Run by | Pages | Sets cookies |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube video | InnerSpace, Play-Doh Clay Tools, Marble Vision | No — served through youtube-nocookie, so nothing is set until you press play |
One of those pages, Marble Vision, is unlisted: it is not in the Projects index or the sitemap. It is listed here anyway, because unlisted is not gone — the page still works for anyone holding a link, and still loads what this table says.
The embeds go through youtube-nocookie.com, which serves the same
player without the advertising cookies. Measured on the live pages, that took
them from five cookies and a call to Google's ad network down to none of either.
Google still sees your IP address and which page you are on, because the player
has to come from somewhere — but nothing is stored in your browser unless you
choose to play the video.
There used to be more. 3D models were embedded from Sketchfab and circuit schematics from Upverter; the models are now rendered from files served by this site, and Upverter shut down. Both are gone, and with them the last embed on the site that set a cookie.
Every other page — the homepage, Work and all its entries, the Projects index, Photography, tags and phases — loads nothing but the site itself and the Cloudflare analytics script.
What this site deliberately doesn't do
- No third-party fonts. Typefaces are served from this domain. Loading them from Google Fonts would hand your IP address to Google on every page for no benefit to you.
- No third-party image hosting. Photographs and the headshot come
from this domain and my own
assets.brianlc.comandphotos.brianlc.com, which are mine and sit behind the same Cloudflare account. - No advertising, no pixels, no session recording, no fingerprinting, no A/B testing tools, no chat widgets.
- No data sold, shared, or handed to anyone — there is none to sell.
- No tracking in the RSS feed. It is plain XML.
Links to other sites
There are a lot of them: GitHub repositories, employers, suppliers, and a few articles. Following one is an ordinary link, and where you go afterwards is between you and them.
Getting in touch
There is no form here. The contact form lives at BRCH Innovations, my consulting practice, and what it collects is described in that site's privacy notice. If you email me, I keep the email, the same as anyone would.
Changes
This page is dated at the top, and its whole history is public in the repository that builds the site. If I add an embed or turn on a new analytics tool, this page changes in the same commit.
